Straub Premium Lager
One night during the summer of 2005, a phrase was born. A phrase that, at the time, was written off as stupid babble, but proved to have more staying power than this little number. That phrase was "Yeah dude, Straubers" and it continues to speak volumes about this lovely Pennsylvania brew.
Straub is old. Old as shit. The original founder was born in Germany in 1850 and as this shady, inaccurate timeline shows, the real history is pretty tough to follow. Straubers as we know it today began when Mr. Straub relocated to St. Mary's, PA and opened up shop, where it remains today.
Straub's big claim to fame is the fact they don't fill the beer up with a bunch of bull that most other beers do. No preservatives, extra sugar, or salts are used in the brewing process, which makes for a pretty damn enjoyable morning after in the headache department. It's also a pretty legit choice for diabetics, although it should be noted you should try to avoid alcohol altogether if you do, in fact, have diabetes. It's "Honestly Fresh" as the bottles say and one of the new frugal, nonrotgut choices left if you want to rep PA. Also, if you are a resident of the great Commonwealth of PA, you can pick up cases of pounder bottles at most distros, drink all of them, and return the empty bottles for 2ish bucks off your next case. They're practically paying you to drink em! A suitcase of cans runs at about 16 bucks, making it a pretty decent steal. You can drink these. They fill you up in the good way, the pace yourself way. If you're super thirsty, you can probably do some work, but my endorsement is using this as the yardwork beer, not the beerbong beer.
As for the review, this is a damn good everyday fridge beer. The price is right, the taste is good, the can is pretty, and your dad cred will go up 5fold, at least. Don't want to say we were ahead of the curve or anything, but this was a product of 2004:
Faces have been edited to protect grown up cred, however, this would probably increase the cred. Whatever, on to the ratings:
Drinkability: 7/10
Taste: 6/10
Value: 6/10
Curb Appeal: 8/10 (dad appeal)
Overall: 6.75/10
this premium is also 4.1% ABV, in case anyone was wondering.
